About this book
Harlan Coben picks up Mickey's story where it left off in Shelter and keeps up the action-packed, hook-and-twist storytelling that has won him a huge fanbase. Mickey has stumbled across a disturbing photograph and realises there's a mystery surrounding his dad's death that has to be investigated. But still reeling from the shock, he finds himself caught up in a police investigation when a classmate is murdered. Coben's likeable teen characters and pacey plot make Seconds Away another unputdownable teen read.
Red House Readers say...
"I can guarantee that you will try and read this novel without taking breath!"Harlan Coben has written many popular crime novels for adults featuring tough investigator Myron Bolitar. With this book, and the introduction of Myron's nephew Mickey Bolitar, Coben now reaches out to younger readers. Mickey's father has passed away, and his mother is in rehab. Living with his uncle Myron, trying to fit in at his new high school and forging a friendship with Ema, who is similarly ignored by her classmates, initially take up all of Mickey's energy. However, an encounter with an elderly neighbour called the Bat Lady who insists that a man in a photo is a brutal war criminal, and the shooting of a classmate soon see him embroiled in a sinister crime story.... I enjoyed reading this novel because of the fast-paced plot and the likeable main character, Mickey. I can guarantee that you will try and read this novel without taking breath! Suitable for readers over the age of 12, a well-deserved 5/5.
"I really enjoyed this book and just couldn’t put it down"This book is about a teenage boy called Mickey Bolitar, whose life is turned upside down when he discovers the truth about his father's untimely death. If that wasn't enough, one of Mickey's classmates is shot - a case that he and his friends Ema and Spoon attempt to uncover. As they begin to unravel the mystery, Mickey realises that he and his friends are all in danger - and he must decide how much he is willing to risk for the ones he loves. I really enjoyed this book and just couldn't put it down! I would definitely recommend it to fans of mystery and suspense!
