Red House Readers say...
This is a fantastic start to an incredible series of booksArtemis Fowl is twelve... and a criminal genius. He'll stop at nothing to lie, cheat and steal in order to rebuild his family's fortune. Holly Short, on the other hand is an elf. Not your tiny cute kind of elf, but a rough tough member of LEPrecon, the SAS of the Lower Elements Police. Artemis hears of this mysterious world of fairies, elves and such, and decides to capture one of them and ransom them for a fortune in fairy gold. He kidnaps Holly and there follows a gripping, funny adventure that gives you a whole new view of fairies and spirites and just how tough they all are. This is a fantastic start to an incredible series of books, which challenge the reader and give surprises and thrills in each chapter. Oh, and watch out for the troll!

""The first book in the best series ever""
Artemis Fowl, will stop at nothing to rebuild the family fortune, and restore the pride of the Fowls. This will require a bit of corruption and kidnapping. Kidnapping a fairy, to be exact. And not just any fairy, Artemis Fowl captured the LEPrecon`s test case, Holly Short, the first ever female in the job. The LEP will stop at nothing to get back their officer, throwing everything they have at Artemis. Time-stops, bio bomb, even a troll! Not that he isn't prepared. The only way Artemis will surrender Holly is if he gets 24 ingots of gold, a lot, but is his mother's sanity really worth half the gold, and the captain? Artemis Fowl is a great book for 10-13-year-old readers. It has a sense of humour, coupled with edge of your seat anticipation. A must read.
