I thought that this was another really good book by Horowitz. I have read the Alex Rider books and thought that they were brilliant and I was waiting for this one in great expectation. Although it is great in parts it is very sinister and extremely dark. As Matt, Jamie and Richard travel to China to find Scar they meet the master of the mountain where Matt has to test himself on the sword ladder. In order to stop the Old Ones turning the world into a planet of death, the four Gatekeepers must find the final Gatekeeper Scar but Scar has problems of her own when she is captured by monks with hideous injures, provoking a national search.
All in all this is a brilliant book for older readers aged 12 plus.
