Any young readers who have ever felt like the odd one out will identify with this offbeat story about a young boy who has a strange and gravity-defying tendency to float! Red House Readers say...
Great for readers who like a laughHave you ever been into space, been to Brazil or travelled in a hot-air balloon? Barnaby Brocket has. This book tells us the story of a boy's life. Barnaby's family is made up of a normal brother and sister and two normal parents. From the day he was born, they realised he wasn't normal. He was the first floating boy. After years of standing out, because of their son, Barnaby's parents decide they can't put up with it and get rid of him. During his travels, he meets two friendly elderly women, makes friends with a boy who has hooks instead of hands and tries to parachute and bungee jump with an old man. Although it has bits of it which are quite sad, the book has an amazing range of jokes – great for readers who like a laugh.
"I would give this book 10 out of 10"The Brocket family are the most normal people in the world...until Barnaby arrives. He isn't normal because he defies the rule of gravity. To stop him from floating, his mum buys him a rucksack and fills it with sand. When Barnaby is eight, his mum decides enough is enough and she takes Barnaby on a walk. When they reach a cliff, his mum cuts a hole in the rucksack and all the sand pours out. So then Barnaby floats up and up, until he lands in Brazil. From that point onwards, he tries to get home and on the way, he meets lots of interesting people like a window cleaner who is a budding artist. But will he ever get home? I really enjoyed the book and I would gladly recommend it to people from the age of 9 to 14. I would give this book 10 out of 10.
