John Boyne's, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a poignant and saddening book based during the Second World War and set in Berlin. When Bruno returns home from school one day, he discovers that his belongings are being packed into crates. His father has received a promotion and the family must move from their home to a new house far away, where there is no one to play with, and nothing to do. A tall fence running alongside stretches as far as the eye can see and cuts him off from the strange people he can see in the distance. But Bruno longs to be an explorer and decides that there must be more to this desolate new place than meet the eye. One day whilst exploring he comes face to face with another boy, and strikes up a friendship that has devastating consequences.

This is such a touching story, it really is a must read. I read this with my daughter and we could see the sad story unfolding in front of us, unable to do anything to stop the very sad ending, just a wonderful reading experience.

This is the best book I have read in ages, it is amazing and really good. I enjoyed it so much i could read it over and over again. I could not put it down. The best book. I would recommend it.

I love this book soooooooo much. It is told completely differently from every other WW2 book I've ever read (and I've read a lot of them!) It's the story of a young boy called Bruno who's father is a high ranking Nazi officer. Bruno and his family move house (much to the children's annoyance). There Bruno meets another young boy who lives in the Concentration Camp next door, leading to disastrous consequences.
