- Look Inside

I found this enthralling trilogy truly captivating, taking me on a magical adventure with 12 year old Lyra Belacqua and her daemon, Pan. Lyra is a feisty, stubborn and very determined character with a tendency to break rules and land herself in trouble and mischief. In a world, rather different to the one we know, full of daemons and many other magical beings, Lyra befriends an exiled polar bear, Iorek Byrnison and the beautiful witch, Serafina Pekkala. Lyra's thrilling adventures throughout the three books include travelling to the north in an attempt to free the children kidnapped by the "Gobblers"; discovering, along with her newfound friend, Will, a knife capable of cutting through anything, even the fabric between parallel worlds and travelling to the Land of the Dead. This trilogy is amazing - everything is described so vividly it makes you feel as if you really are there with all the characters. In a few places, the language can be quite hard to grasp - I read these books a year ago, when I was 10, but I thoroughly enjoyed them all the same. My favourite book out of the three would probably be The Subtle Knife as I find the possibility of there being many different parallel worlds in the universe and the possibility of being able to cut a hole through to them with this special knife absolutely fascinating.

These books truly are a must-read, and have already gone down in history. I read these books at the age of fourteen, and discussed them with a teacher who loved them as much I did and was in her thirties. I have since re-read the books twice, and can't recommend them enough! My best friend loves them as much I do.
Yes, the language can be a bit demanding for those younger than the age of, say fifteen years old, and the concepts may be a little hard to grasp, so before you buy them for children you ought to decipher the reading age of your child - I am eighteen years old, and no many of my friends my age may find it a little demanding.
If you yourself, have not read them, you really ought to, they are worth it! - Also, perhaps then you could help the younger person understand parts they may be confused about.
Great price! - I've been wanting to purchase these books for quite some time, and will do now.

Her adventures are utterly believable and extremely gripping. As soon as you have finished the first book you will immediately want to read the next two. The characters are vividly portrayed and the plot is complex with a few twists that will keep the reader hooked throughout. As you can tell, I am a massive fan of Philip Pullman and reccomend these books to 12 year olds and above although Adults will also love this amazing trilogy!
